2. INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the Vale Of Lune RUFC Homepage for our Mini and Junior Section

RFU Core Values - TEAMWORK, RESPECT, ENJOYMENT, DISCIPLINE AND SPORTSMANSHIP.

The Vale Of Lune RUFC is signed up to the RFU initiative called KIDS FIRST RUGBY. It's aim is to put the child at the centre, moving on at the child's own pace and development so that more children experience success. This is achieved through - Personal and social development; Self-Esteem and Well-being ; Reward beyond competition and physical maturity; Inclusion; Increased game understanding; Individual skill development and helps to develop a 'growth mind set'.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Team ages are categorised as the child's age as of 1st September. The same as their school year (U6s Yr1, U7s Yr2, U8s Yr3 and so on).

The Minis group is available for all Boys and Girls alike and they play in mixed teams. The section comprises of Under 6s (Micros) to Under 12s.

Under 6s (micros) are not permitted to play matches at this age but train weekly and children learn the basic skills and 'FUNdementals' of rugby in a safe and fun environment.

At age 6, the Under 7s begin to play matches against other clubs and again, skills are taught through games and fun participation.

Years Under 7s and Under 8s play Tag Rugby which is non contact. The emphasis being on Teamwork, Running, Passing and Evasion skills.

At Under 9s, tackling is introduced and it becomes contact rugby. Gum Shields are therefore required.

Every following year a new skill is introduced and the game is slowly developed as the child grows.

All the Mini section also get the chance to take part in tournaments within the North West and at the Vale Of Lune, we are privileged to Host our own Tournament every Year.

-------------------------------------------

The Junior section ranges form Under 13 to Under 16s.

Under 12s onwards, children are required to play single sex teams. At this time, the VOL does not have a girls team (only ladies).

The VOL has a Junior COLTS team.
