Everyone at Vale of Lune extend their sympathies to Roy's family at this distressing sad time. Roy has not been in the best of health in recent weeks but is death has come as a shock to all who knew him.
Roy was an ardent supporter of Vale and of course followed son Harry's career with great interest. Roy played the majority of his rugby over at Fylde.
Roy possessed a dry wit, fond of telling a joke, especially one-liners, but he was capable of spinning out a tale leaving his audience waiting with bated breath for the punch line. One example of Roy's humour was contained in his last email. “When I was collecting my Christmas tree the assistant asked me if I was going to put it up myself. I said no. I will try the front room!”
“Roy of the Rovers,” as he was affectionately known, was quiet, kind, thoughtful, intelligent, not prone to outbursts, or grandstanding. Some of his friends remember Roy as a “colourful chap,” a “lovely guy,” “splendid company.” He had all the qualities associated with a gentleman.
AVE ATQUE VALE-ROY.
