The recent Kendal tragedy has triggered a review of the Vale of Lune's safety practices. In particular, those relating to our younger members. The review identified the need to keep children and vehicles at a safe distance from each other, where possible. Although this is primarily for our micros, minis and juniors, it is hoped that adults will also set an example by adopting the changes being brought in.
Club volunteers have erected a temporary fence, with access points for maintenance, running between the clubhouse and the changing block. As this is the busiest area for pedestrian and vehicular movement, the aim of the fence is to allow all members and visitors to pass between the two buildings in an increased state of safety. It does not impede any current parking facilities.
Please use, and encourage others to use, the grass path between the new fence and the barrier around around the first team pitch. Of course, people arriving and leaving in cars need to cross the car park on arrival and departure. Children are usually accompanied at these times. Otherwise, keep pedestrians off the car park and on the path.
The new fence is temporary and, when resourcing allows, may be upgraded for permanency. Intended measures include: 5 MPH signage, the repainting of hatch markings, and a speed bump across the entrance to the car park. Consider, especially with youngsters, if you don't need to be on the car park, please use the path.
