Vale Valkyries

Vale Valkyries

Amanda Coleman14 May - 20:20

The Future of Vale of Lune Girls' Rugby!

Within the Vale of Lune Mini & Junior Section, we actively welcome both boys and girls to play rugby. However, once girls reach age 11, they must transition out of mixed rugby and join our dedicated girls' team – the Vale Valkyries.

Right now the Valkyries are in need of support. We currently have no official coaches, only a dedicated parent that has been helping out, and limited backing from the wider club. Although we’ve reached out to Sale Sharks Ladies, Lancaster is not currently within their support area. Their offer while much appreciated and we’d be willing to pay for, doesn’t provide the coaching and development our teenage girls need and we hope to change that.

We want to build a strong foundation for girls' and women's rugby at Vale – just as strong as our male teams. To do that, we’re calling on anyone in the community who might be interested in helping: parents, players, supporters, and volunteers. We need people to:

  • Help promote and grow the girls' section from micro’s right through to U16’s and then beyond. Ideally by going into secondary and primary schools, showing a presence and encourage girls to the club for taster sessions.
  • Support the existing players.
  • Help form a coaching and support team (this can be a shared effort)
  • Plan to reinstate a future women’s team with the support of the club & coaching teams.

The RFU is committed to growing the women's game and with the right backing, we can look toward additional support and sponsorships.

If you or someone you know might be interested in helping us make this happen even with any small contribution, please email mandacoleman@mac.com. We will then arrange to set up a meeting within the club to share ideas and make a plan before the start of the new season.
