ROBINSON'S BREWERY CUP
A superb all round team performance helped the seconds secure their first win of the season coming hard on the heels of their below par encounter at Preston Grasshoppers the previous week.
The Vale fielded a squad with four newcomers including New Zealander, Blake Steele, who came off the bench to score Vale’s seventh try in addition to playing a major role in Jordan Fern’s sixtieth minute try.
Vale’s pack built a solid platform, in which Alfie Bolton was in outstanding form, for the free running threequarters who posted eight tries which included a hat trick from ace poacher, full back Chris Ramwell. The pairing of scrum half Taylor Mills and stand-off Harry Finan proved to be inspirational in such a satisfying victory.
Chris Ramwell opened the scoring in the eighth minute when he zoomed in on Harry Finan’s perfect chip to somersault his way over for his try which Harry Finan converted.
Wilmslow’s pack mauled their way over for a converted try in the seventeenth minute but six minutes later the Vale put their noses in front when Chris Ramwell made a break to link with newcomer Lee Starkey who touched down for an unconverted try.
In the thirty fifth minute Chris Ramwell finished off a flowing attack with an unconverted try and in the third minute of stoppage time Harry Finan slipped through for a deserved try which he converted to end a most productive half.
Three minutes into the second forty Chris Ramwell gleefully collected his hat trick with an unconverted try. Blake Steele made an impact off the bench when he looped round from the right wing to set up Jordan Fern’s try which Harry Finan converted.
The visitor’s forwards manufactured a converted try with another rumble over Vale’s line in the seventy first minute. Blake Steele’s backing up was rewarded with a try converted by Harry Finan in the seventy fourth minute.
Ethan Robertson touched down in the seventy eighth minute for Vale’s final try which Harry Finan converted to climax a morale boosting win.
Vale have been drawn against Preston Grasshoppers 2 at home in the next round of the ROBINSON BREWERY CUP which will be played on January 26, in the meantime it is back to the day job on Saturday when they entertain Lymm 2.
