Despite having to travel to Bradwall Road without a full compliment of replacements the Vale produced another first rate performance to move into second place in Conference B.
Playing up the slope with the breeze at their backs the Vale had to defend early Sandbach attacks but with stand off Neil Walker firing some well directed accurate kicks into Sandbach territory the visitors moved swiftly onto the offensive.
In the fourteenth minute Brad Goss appeared wide out to touchdown for the neatest of tries converted by Walker. Ten minutes later the Vale forwards engaged high drive to maul their way to the Sandbach line where ace poacher, Danny Lin was yet again in the right place at the right time to collect a try which Walker converted with a magnificent conversion that threaded its way between the uprights.
The lively Goss scored an unconverted try in the twenty eighth minute, later the winger was forced to leave the action with a shoulder injury. With the Vale very much in control Alistair Richards cut back inside from an orthodox threequarter move to wrong foot the defenders, Walker converted in the thirty eighth minute.
During a lenthy period of injury time Sandbach took advantage when the Vale were forced to regroup following an injury to Goss. The home side opted for a scrum in front of the Vale posts in a surprise decision but they were rewarded with a converted try.
There was nothing unusual about the Vale's opening score of the second half when Jamie Antcliffe broke through for a try converted by Walker after three minutes play. Scott Manning can also be a supercharged handful when in full flight as he showed when barging his way through the opposition for his try in the fifty eighth minute. Walker added the conversion, a feat he repeated three minutes later following Lin's second try.
From this point on the game fragmented, injuries disrupted the flow and white line fever began to grip some of the Vale players. Tom Cvijanovic calmly brought up the half century with a try converted by the in form Walker to complete the scoring with four minutes left on the stop watch.
Changes were made from the squad that defeated Birkenhead Park the previous week with two players from the opposite ends of the rugby spectrum making their presence felt. James Alker performed well at scrum half and showed some neat touches, while full back Aaron Melville was as usual rock solid and used his experience to good effect. Dan Rainford put in some ferocious tackles while Ryan Needham showed his versatility when he came on as tight head replacement. Overall another commendable performance considering the changes in personnel, next up Burnage 2 at home.
