The second's term of trial continues on its un-merry way when their opponents, this time it was Chester, handed out another heavy defeat. In the Vale's defence it must be reaffirmed they have suffered from injuries, having to play players out of position, losing players to the first team and suffering further problems as the games unfolded with players picking up injuries. It must also be underlined that the Premier League is a pretty unforgiving place to be with so many talented second teams showing little mercy on their prey.
Vale's pack produced another workmanlike performance. Adam Foxcroft, Dan Rainford, Aiden Yates and Danny Lin, who was making a welcome return, all made massive contributions, but unfortunately the home side looked vulnerable when they tried to open up the game, any errors being punished by Chester's threequarters who hardly missed an opportunity to launch a counter attack.
Within the opening minutes the Vale's injury list started to mount, reshuffling took place and by the end of the first quarter they trailed 17-0. Neil Walker kicked a penalty goal in the twenty seventh minute, but the Vale turned round at half time 31-3 down.
In the sixty seventh minute Kyel Dempsey showed great anticipation when he accelerated when he raced away for a try converted by Neil Walker. Chester continued to press, they snaffled up efficiently any chances that came their way to register their first league victory of the season.
