The seconds eased themselves into a new season and a new league by registering an important away victory at Priory Park despite have to arrange their line up before kick-off due to the late arrival of some players and one who failed to turn up.
Winger Jordan Fern ran in three of his sides eight tries with Ryan Busby converting five, his haul included some splendid kicks from difficult positions, plus a penalty goal.
Like the first team, the seconds made the perfect start putting early points on the board. The in-form Fraser Spavin made a lightning break before releasing Jordan Fern for his try which Ryan Busby converted in the fifth minute.
Unfortunately some of the gloss was taken off this score because the Vale paid the penalty for being too adventurous close to their goal line as a beefy set of Macclesfield forwards took full advantage to rumble their way to a converted try.
Vale quickly bounced back and in the seventeenth minute they stylishly regained the lead. Debutant scrum half Javier Ferrer Rubio made the initial thrust with a powerful, darting run, prior to despatching Fraser Spavin on his way to an unconverted try.
Such a quality score inspired the Vale and as the game moved into the closing ten minutes they increased their lead even further. In the thirty first minute Jordan Fern turned on the after burners for his try converted by Ryan Busby from wide out.
A forward drive allowed Joe Wallbank to maul his way over for an unconverted try with three minutes remaining but just before the interval Macclesfield exploited Vale’s lack of bodies in defence to post another seven-pointer.
In the fifth minute of the second half Fraser Spavin snatched the ball of a startled opponent to set off on a lung burning, sixty metre run,for an unconverted try.

Vale were forced to make a number of positional changes because of a series of injuries in the latter stages and while these adjustments were being made Macclesfield added an unconverted try. However, the Vale finished with a flourish when Luke Bell scored a deserved unconverted try.
Although the Vale might have lacked a few pounds in their pack their overall fitness and stamina, allowed them to play the majority of the game on the front foot. In a solid team performance locks Tom Cvijanovic and Rhys Randall put in a full shift, Matt Shaw made his presence felt when he came off the replacement’s bench and Fraser Spavin made an outstanding contribution.
In the threequarters number nine Javier Ferrer Rubio was always eager to get the line moving and alert to any openings around the fringes. Jordan Fern always posed a constant threat and did not shy away from buying the traditional three pint jug. Luke Bell grew in confidence in a Vale side that displayed character and produced the ideal result ahead of the home fixture against Wilmslow seconds on Saturday.
