THE RUN CONTINUES.

THE RUN CONTINUES.

Reg Robinson6 Nov 2017 - 09:15

Excellent first half but some momentum was lost in the second forty.

Vale second extended their winning sequence to six unbeaten games in a 12 try victory. Winger Jordan Fern and hooker Richard Hodgson both collected hat tricks in Vale’s highest point’s victory of the season.
By half time the Vale had built up a healthy 41-6 lead while playing into the wind with some excellent passages of totally committed rugby. Unfortunately in the second half they became the occasional victims of white line fever and although further points were added the final total could well have been higher.
Top comedian, Ted Robbins, who was looking extremely fit, was running touch as the Vale made the perfect start with a try after four minutes. The ball was moved efficiently to the right; an overlap was created which was capitalized on by Matt Mount who crossed for an unconverted try.
Rossendale replied with a penalty goal three minutes later but the Vale regained the lead in the tenth minute following another swift passage of rugby which ended with Scott Manning delivering a delightful pass to Kyel Dempsey for another unconverted try.
Scott Manning’s try in the fifteenth minute was converted by Alex Briggs and seven minutes later Richard Hodgson scored his first, which he converted, following a powerful drive from his fellow forwards.
Vale’s passing, which was of the highest standard in the first half, was showcased in the build up to Andrew Garnett’s unconverted try in the twenty sixth minute. Jordan Fern opened his account in the thirty second minute with an unconverted try. Rossendale kicked a second penalty but the half ended with another try from Jordan Fern which was converted by Alex Briggs.
Tom Cvijanovic scored an early second half unconverted try but the Vale were forced to wait until the final quarter before they could add to their total with a flurry of tries.
Jordan Fern collected his hat trick in the sixty second minute with Alex Briggs putting over the conversion. Ten minutes later Richard Hodgson blasted his way over for a try which he converted with little ceremony.
Taylor Mills made an individual break to race over for an unconverted try in the seventy seventh minute and in the final move of the game a jubilant Richard Hodgson posted his hat trick try which he converted as the Vale coasted past the seventy point mark for the first time this season which was their highest tally since winning at Leigh, 75-13, in April 2010.
