Vale travelled to Sedgley Park with seventeen players but included in their squad were a number of new faces and some who had only made brief appearances at second team level but throughout a testing game they suffered a number of injuries, at one stage in the second half it was very much back to the wall for the visitors when they were reduced to thirteen players.
Skipper Paul Dorrington led from the front, Joe Clarkson had an immense game in the back row, prop Ross Pillow was a stabilising influence when he came on as a replacement when injuries forced the Vale to rearrange their pack. Unfortunately for most of the game the Vale were on the back foot a situation that forced Sean Coulshed to work hard as he alternated between stand off and scrum half.
The home side blasted through some indifferent tackling to build up a 19-0 lead by the twenty first minute and by the interval held a 33-0 lead. The Vale started strongly in the second half and pressed the home side but as they had to cope with mounting injuries the floodgates opened as Sedgley cruised serenely home for their first win of the season and leave the Vale marooned at the foot of the table.
