Vale's three game winning sequence was halted by a frisky Caldy back division that punished the home side's errors. Overall it was a disappointing outcome for the Vale who played particularly well in the forwards but they were unable to put the cuffs on the visitor's lightning three quarters. To their credit however, the Vale clawed their way back from a 27-6 deficit early in the second half but Caldy expertly ran the clock down in the final minutes.
Caldy opened the scoring in the fourteenth minute when a sluggish Vale failed to spot the danger posed by the scrum half in the build up to a converted try. Five minutes later Neil Walker kicked a penalty goal, he did add a second sandwiched between two Caldy penalties. With the half drawing to a close the Vale coughed up possession deep in Caldy territory, the ball was whisked along the visitor's threequarter line for long range converted try.
The Vale made a promising start to the second half but they fell further behind to another pulsating passage of play when Caldy's winger left players trailing in his wake for a converted try in the fiftieth minute.
Vale's fight back began almost immediately when Tom Cvijanovic battled his way over for a try converted by Neil Walker. In the sixty ninth minute Sean Coulshed narrowed the gap even closer when he chipped ahead and won the race for the touchdown.
Alex Morrison crowned a fine individual performance with a deserved well taken try in the seventy fifth minute but just when the Vale had Caldy in their sights they were punished when possession was lost and Caldy raced off into the distance for an unconverted try.
Deep in stoppage time Sean Coulshed collected his second try but the older heads in Caldy's side knew exactly disrupt proceedings and make life difficult for the Vale who were trying to build their momentum to register a winning try.
Tom Cvijanovic had a superb game, Alex Morrison, who had a late call up, was in the thick of action and directing operations from number eight, while Aiden Mason made an instant impact with some comprehensive tackling in a strong Vale pack.
On Saturday Vale face a testing fixture over at Sedgley Park when they take on the unbeaten league leaders, in the meantime the record of the game is awaited with interest, seats in all parts!
