Further to the meeting with Gary Middlebrook and Mark Wilkinson on 7/12/20 the board would summarise the proposal as follows;
There have been many varying proposals over the last few years. The Project Team have rejected those proposals that were not beneficial to the Club. It is important to note that we do not have to adopt any proposal unless we as a Club believe that it is in the best interests of the Club.
1. The showground pitch would become part of a 51 home development. See attached diagram.
The Club currently has a licensing agreement with the owners Fellside Land Developments to use the showground for sports related activities.
The Club under normal circumstances is using the showground for matches on Saturdays and Sundays, for pre-season training and training on Sundays. This is for Seniors and Mini & Juniors. The pitch is maintained by us.
The Club is in contact with the Bare, Torrisholme and Westgate cricket clubs to ensure that they are aware of our approach and that we are not in disagreement with them.
2. The middle training pitch would become the 3G pitch (100m x 64m) this would be enclosed by a 3m fence on 100m side and 5m fence on 64m side. The crematorium pitch (100m x 64m) would be moved closer to Powderhouse Lane to possibly enable a small training pitch (55m x 28m) to be situated at the east end of the crematorium pitch. See attached diagram.
The Club under normal circumstances is using the middle training pitch for matches on Saturdays (rarely) and for training on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. This is for Seniors and Mini & Juniors. The pitch is maintained by us.
3. Pitch enhancements would be made to the crematorium pitch and the main pitch. This should ensure that the pitches are more useable during poor weather conditions. Funds for these enhancements would be provided by Oakmere Homes at the start of the project but under the control of the Club.
The main pitch would need the dead ball areas to be reduced by a small amount but the main pitch would remain exactly where it is at present.
4. The 3G pitch would be constructed to World Rugby Football Union specification and work carried out by RFU approved contractor, SIS Pitches Ltd. The work would be carried out under the management of Oakmere Homes but would have to be signed off by RFU and the Club. Oakmere Homes to fund the work in it’s entirety. Work would not be allowed to commence on the showground pitch until the 3G had been completed.
It is anticipated that the 3G pitch would be installed during the close season, provisionally in 2023.
The 3G would be available just for members use, though depending on management, safety, security and maintenance issues there is a possibility that it could be rented out. Funds for the operation of the 3G pitch would be provided by Oakmere Homes at the start of the project but under the control of the Club.
5. The Club currently uses facilities at Morecambe Community High School on Thursdays for training of Seniors and Mini & Juniors. It is envisaged that this would no longer be required.
6. From meeting with the RFU they have given us the indication that they would support the proposal if it was the wish of the members and that it would not put the Club in any financial difficulty.
