History's most feared raiding party was on the move. The Vale Vikings ( no not them). The raid had been long in planning. The finest chiefs and the Vale's fiercest shield maidens had refined it and the beacons were now lit. The day was here. 120 warriors now or never.

The boat was in the water but there was no fear only excitement. A steely calm descended as the weapons were stowed and the embarkation proceeded. Everyone could feel the closeness of glory but not yet. The cruel sea was yet to be overcome. Many had found the cold dark deep before the chance of Valhalla. Thankfully, the prayers to Njord had been heard and he calmed the see. Time to initiate the new warriors.

In true Viking spirit they received the ritual as Odin would have expected. The excitement of the voyage rose. Offerings to the gods, horns of ale and roast meats were consumed. Suddenly, as if Loki himself was at work, a ripple hit the voyage. Have we gone too far? Will we get back.

Thankfully, the chiefs and shield maidens came to the fore. The voyagers were reassured and the prospect of glory re-instated in the heart of the fearsome army. The arrival at port was met with little resistance and a night of frivolity was allowed. The dread prospect of epic battle was for the morrow.
