Vale are victorious in Blustery Blackburn
The game kicked off with both sides executing some good set play despite the wet and windy conditions. Ten minutes into the game Blackburn where awarded a penalty thirty meters out after numerous infringements for the away side. Sam Dinsdale Calmy converted to open the scoring for the game.
The game resumed as Vale fought their way up the pitch, until they received a scrum Twenty-Two meters out. The Vale back line executed a move that looked straight off the training ground with Isaac Cook dancing through multiple defenders before finding the off load to Jacob Winder who ran it under the post for the first try of the game, which was converted by Isaac Cook.
The boys in cherry and white again worked their way up the pitch with some strong carriers from prop forward Fred Manning. Blackburn where awarded a scrum in their own Twenty-Two, but with some great defensive work from Harry Stainton and a strong counter ruck Jack Thomas ended under the sticks for Vales second of the day. Which once again was calmly converted by Isaac Cook.
With the rain continuing to bounce down neither side could come up with anything else before half time leaving the score at 3-14
The second Half kicked off and after two unfortunate Yellow Cards Vale Played 15 minutes with only 14 men. However, even with this one-man advantage Blackburn couldn’t beat the Vale Defence.
After Blackburn steal a defensive line out, vale put pressure on with Josh Leaver pouncing on a loose ball and barrelling through multiple defenders to open the scoring for the second half. Again, Isaac Cook slots it over the post keeping up his streak for the day.
After a scuffle deep in Blackburn half, which lead to both teams loosing a player, Vale where awarded a penalty Twenty meters out. The Vale Pack made meters towards the try line before a second penalty was awarded 5 meters out. Fred Manning stepped up and ran with power and speed and found the gap in the Blackburn defence scoring the fourth of the game, followed by Isaac Cook making his fourth conversion of the day ending with a 100% record.
The Game kicked off with minutes to spare, the vale countered one last time with Manning, Cook, Heath, and Cowper linking up out wide from one half to the other before the ball was spilt to stop what looked like it could be the fifth try of the game.
A great start to the new season for vale showing a mix of ability and power in the squad but leaving a few areas to work on for the rest of the season. MOTM was awarded to Will Collins for a relentless defensive effort all game.
