In atrocious conditions and on a barely playable pitch Vale took on a Sedgley Team who have beaten some very good teams this season. This match was always going to be about character due to the cold driving rain. The Vale players elected to play into the wind in the first half with the intention of kicking long in the second half and defending determinedly in the first. However, this Vale team can not resist moving the ball and looking to support each other. With a number of players missing the forwards rose to the challenge and rucked and mauled with aggression, with Ciaran Sutcliffe and Tom Horner standing out. Joseph Hutton continued his fine form and linked well with Josh Clark who made the right decisions about when to pass, kick or go back into his forwards.

This all created the platform for Eastwood to ride into the line and score two long range tries which he converted. Harry Hopson, showing a welcome return to form on the wing, was released after some good handling in the backs and ran in from half way. Eastwood finished the half by gunning down the Sedgley winger with what must be the tackle of the season. The half time score of 19-0 was due reward for the lads resilience in the cold conditions.

The second half began with Harry Clarkson and Bobby Clark coming on in the front row. The ever reliable Clarkson and Clark stabilised the scrum. Now playing with the wind the ubiquitous Cody broke free and ran in from 35m. Eastwood converted. Finally, Sutcliffe came away from a maul with the ball and having made ground he released Tom Horner to charge over from 25m to cap a fine display. With that Eastwood converted and rode off into the distance in search of a few goals more.
