Report by Paul Wilkinson.
After a positive pre season the U11s made the journey to Southport with the faith that
this was going to be a great start to the season. A really warm welcome was received
from the Southport coaches and it is clear we won't let the sun go down on this new
fixture this season. They are more than welcome at Powderhouse Lane.
Pre season focused on new rules for the age group and getting back to basics. The
squad was ready and raring to go! Beast mode was activated!
Alongside Southport U11s we were also joined by Tarleton RUFC to add to the
occasion.
With 17 players available we split the squad to make sure that everyone had the
freedom to get some quality time on the paddock.
Every player was incredible and it was lovely to see Kaiden make his debut in the
cherry and white. That lad has some serious gas on him and he is certainly a strong
addition to the squad.
Both Vale sides brought a physical edge to them and the ruck area was a particular
area to celebrate.
On display was some serious fast love for scoring tries and they certainly came thick
and fast.
James at fly half controlled the game well and gave beautiful instructions for keeping the
Vale on the front foot. His commands were clear and precise and there were certainly
no careless whispers when organising his back line.
George showed his customary strength and set a strong platform for others to take
advantage on the outside due to him dragging in would be defenders.
There were simply too many outstanding performances to list them all but certainly
there was always somebody to love with the work they put in for the whole squad.
At this stage the coaches were getting greedy and were willing the team on for one
more try, which thanks to the likes of Roman, Will, Theo, JB and Gabby was always
going to happen.
Isaac took a knock when he scored a try but I think scoring such a stunning try helped
heal the pain.
Head coach Joe spoke to his groupies, Chris, Ian, Sam and Paul and was clearly
delighted with the results. He really is a father figure to the squad and with his flowing
hairstyle really looks like passing his knowledge on like Jesus to a child.
Once in the clubhouse it was nice to see some coaches refreshments and with
confidence Joe stated ‘I knew you were waiting for me’.
Club Tropicana has nothing on the performance that was delivered at Waterloo Road.
The best possible start the season and we can’t wait for next week!
