The incredible U10s travelled to Burnley RUFC for their final fixture. The weather made it more like a fixture in the South of France than in East Lancashire!
All of the squad knew that Burnley are a solid team with some really strong players. On the last fixture Burnley really dominated but today the agreement was that we don't look back in anger and made sure that we came to play some supersonic rugby which is exactly what the boys did.
James set the tone from the kick off with a fantastic tackle which made everyone around him think that it was definitely maybe a fixture for the team to end the season on a high note. There was a definite crunch felt from the sidelines when he made the shakermaker tackle.
Everyone put in a big shift with Roman in particular hitting rucks and tackles with power, intensity and meaning. When Roman and Will were running with the ball would be tacklers had to roll with it and accept that the Vale were here to play hard and were not going to let Burnley cast no shadow on our day!
Head coach, Joe certainly came with a masterplan which was to use the wingers and the powerful bench to keep the intensity high and to deal with 'whatever' Burnley could throw at us.
Both wingers, Robert and Seb were using the space beautifully and were able to slide away from any pressure that Burnley tried to use. Seb in particular was able to get the crowd going with a slight a hand and foot that left the opposition half the world away when he made space for himself and ran the full length of the pitch.
The coaches were really pleased with the defensive wonderwall that the U10s organised which stood firm against some very strong Burnley runners. However Burnley, especially their female players did find some gaps with coaches so impressed with their girls that we all agreed that when they were on the ball that she's electric and very impressive.
Issac scored a fantastic try in the corner which he finished off beautifully and with real precision which was a real highlight of the match. Certainly a try that will live forever in the memories of such a close match.
Bobby was strong in the tackle and was able to burst free and show that he is a real rock n roll star when jinxing through tackles and defensive lines.
George kept his cool under some strong tackles and his rallying cry of stand by me when he is bouncing off players for fun really motivated everyone around him to keep going and made sure the Vale were always on the front foot.
Jesse needs a special mention as he took a knock to the nose which brought out the claret. Despite the heavy knock he agreed that we don't look back in anger and just get back on the pitch and use his skills to motivate the Vale towards the try line.
The determined twins of Gaby and Raphy were everywhere in the action and they both stuck to the task of finding gaps and getting into rucks to keep the flow going. Having them both on the pitch at the same time certainly kept Burnley wondering which one was which!
Ted was his usual combative self and he has to be one of the most consistent performers for the group. Nothing gets through him and he never takes a step backwards even with big runners coming at him. It is always a champagne supernova with Ted on the pitch!
The last mention goes to big Theo who is just a sublime runner and when in full swing is a joy to watch. The opposition try to catch him and it is hard to explain just how strong he is when in full flow, do you know what I mean?
Burnley are a very strong team but we did not acquiesce to their power!
